Shamans in different parts of the world have their drums that they use for ritual purposes, for ceremonies and for healing. Typical of the Shaman Drum is the multiple stretching of an animal hide over a wooden frame in a way that makes it possible not only for the hide but also for the wooden frame to freely resonate.

This is made possible by the fact that the Shaman Drum is held not on the body of the drum but on the holding cross. This leads to long lingering reverberations, because the vibrations are free to develop.

Handcrafted Shaman Drums

We cover our Shaman Drums with handpicked horse or deer skins, that we reinforce on the edges so that they do not rip even when the drum is being stretched. The stretching of the skin over the wooden rim is done by a cord that is routed 28 times. The integrated tension rings made of durable cowhide make it possible to adjust the tension by shifting the tension rings when the skin becomes too loose because of wet weather. A tuning key is not necessary to tune our Shaman Drum.

The sturdy holding cross wrapped with naturally tanned leather sits agreeably in the hand and also stays dependably comfortable when played for a long time.

The warm, dark and long lasting sound of the Shaman Drum carries far and touches us deeply. With its balanced sound characteristics and its attractive workmanship the Shaman Drum is suitable for a variety of uses.

Every musical instrument is principally a tool – to create moods, to fathom the internal spaces and to walk in vibrancy. In the true sense of the word: an instrument. A drum hides a lot of its broad spectrum of sounds that are not defined, and are open for interpretation and thus address the Universal. The vibrating membrane that one finds on a drum echoes in many places on the human body, from the ear, to the heart, to the diaphragm and on to the individual cells. They are evident also through the pulsation that transports the energy/force from a non distinguishable space to another, distinguishable space. A “Shaman” Drum is an instrument that creates a dialogue between these
spaces.
