Bendir

Detail Jingle

With its origins in North Africa and meanwhile to be found in many Arab countries, the Bendir stands out because of the fact that it has one or more strings streched over the drumhead thereby enriching the sound of the drumhead with a snare effect.

Whereas with the conventional Bendir this effect is permanent and not adjustable, we manufacture the Bendir equipped with a mechanism that enables the player not only to vary the snare effect in its power and intensity, but he can also completly turn it off. This mechanism is simple and makes it possible to be used while playing to create many interesting sound variations.

Another unique feature of this Bendir ist that we have attached a pair of small metal jingles, giving the player the possibility to enrich the tone color of the Bendir with that of the sound of the metal jingles. The added sound and rhythmic variations make virtuos play on this Bendir possible. On the side of these small metal jingles are recessed grips made into the frame that allow for comfortable play also by the Riqq technique. The pair of small metal jingles is interchangeable or it can be totally removed when this sound variation is not desired.

With a total of 8 tuning screws that are built into the frame, this Bendir with the drumhead from selected natural hide can be tuned to a desired pitch and can also be played with tonal music compositions.

This Bendir is an all around successful development that is highly praised by professional musicians, and by Mahdi Milla who was our advisor in the development of this instrument.

The use of the Allen wrench makes it possible to fine-tune the drum by loosening or tightening the hide. This makes it possible to tune the drum to a particular piece of music. The tuning wrench in standard format is included with all of the above Frame Drums. For a still more precise control of the tuning we also offer the tuning wrench in professional format.
